“…The core purpose of the Tea Party Movement is smaller government for the sake of liberty and prosperity for all Americans. However, somewhere along the unraveling of political events…the conservative movement lost its way and often became symbolic for…extremism…Lost in the mix of all this was a simple but profound message: A government by the people that has power to intimidate the people through unmitigated power is indeed a dangerous government…”

“That crazy movement called the Tea Party got a little dose of sanity – and credibility – this week.

“And what about critics of the Tea Party Movement and their rhetoric of oppressive big government? Well, it seems that they got a bitter dose of reality.

“The core purpose of the Tea Party Movement is smaller government for the sake of liberty and prosperity for all Americans. However, somewhere along the unraveling of political events since the election of President Obama, the conservative movement lost its way and often became symbolic for racism, political nastiness, and partisan extremism. Lost in the mix of all this was a simple but profound message:

“A government by the people that has power to override the will of the people is indeed a dangerous government.

“The conservative movement was extremely critical of Obamacare…(it) opposed unconstitutional czars and 100% taxation to address unprecedented financial bailouts and bonuses…(it) questioned changing stories about overseas terrorist attacks and domestic near-misses.

“People complained, saying this gave government way too much power, even if the intention appeared, on the surface, admirable. The same argument was made at the local level over soda pop limits… and transvaginal exam(s)…

“A government by the people that has power to bully the people – even for its intended “own good” – is indeed a dangerous government.

“At what point will more Americans understand the ramifications of a government that deems itself capable of dictating to you what to buy, how much of it you can buy, and what it can do to your body in the most intimate of life moments?”

Who won the fiscal cliff showdown in Washington? Or, is it a question of if we all lost during the process? Find out in the latest version of The McAllister Minute

AMERICAN URBAN RADIO NETWORK (Across America) (January 2, 2013)

“Let’s be clear about what just happened with the fiscal cliff deal passed over New Year’s weekend by the Senate and House of Representatives.

“No one won – and everyone lost, starting with you.

“Sure, there will be people that will do their best to spin the negotiations politically to say that President Obama and the Democrats won the negotiations or that the Republicans were able to make their points known and accounted for, even though they were the losers in this past election cycle.

“But, do you feel like anyone really won through all of this?

“For example, the Bush tax cuts that President Obama campaigned against in 2008 – then signed into law in 2010 – then campaigned against again in 2012….were just – again – extended by the president. This time, the threshold of $250,000 that the election-night victor noted repeated was now pushed up to almost twice that limit. The estate tax went up marginally as well, instead of the larger increase that the Democrats were looking for.

“Just the same, do the Republicans have much to hang their hats on? Proclaiming a victory on fending off a tax hike on Americans making less than $450,000 annually comes off as hollow when considering that the payroll tax will go up on all Americans in 2013. Of course, that doesn’t matter as much as the primary tea party issue: the national debt. As long as fiscal compromise in Washington starts with legislation that increases the national debt by trillions, Republicans should be hanging their heads in shame, not hanging their hats on an accomplishment.”

McAllister Statement on the Fiscal Cliff Deal and President Obama’s Remarks (January 1 2013)

President Obama addresses the nation after the fiscal cliff deal was reached by a vote in the House of Representatives. Read Lenny McAllister’s statement on the current deal and its impact on the nation.

WASHINGTON, DC (January 1, 2013) — Lenny McAllister, upon hearing President Obama’s remarks concerning the completion of the fiscal cliff negotiations tonight, issued the following statement:

“It is with a sense of national relief and political disappointment that we watch the end result of the fiscal cliff negotiations: an agreement in place that raises taxes on all Americans, raises income taxes on some Americans, and further raises anxiety about America’s spending problems. Increases to spending that add trillions to the nation debt should not be the result of a negotiation that was designed to address America’s ongoing deficit woes as well as our spending problems.

“Tonight is not a congratulatory moment, nor is it a cause for celebration. Instead, we watched collectively as a nation as we witnessed yet again the failures from political stubbornness, a reality in status quo partisanship that yields the low levels of confidence Americans have in government and even lower approval ratings our countrymen give Congress today. The tone must change if we are going to reverse the trends we face as a nation.

“I am disappointed that President Obama, equipped with the power of renewed political capital by way of his November victory, was unable to commandeer a long-term, bi-partisan solution. Creating situations where America and her economic partners around the world will have more opportunities to watch beltway bickering under another grueling deadline a few mere months away is not leadership that instills confidence during rocky times, especially when the threatening problems of spending and sequestration still loom on the immediate horizon.

“Once again, we heard from President Obama a limiting vision, one that focuses too much on economic investment and spending coming from the American federal government, not from the innovative American people. We need legislative solutions that empower both the American middle class through tax policy and our private sector of potential innovators, future business leaders, and resource investors through legislative encouragement so that we can turn around this economy effectively. Policies that focus primarily on increased taxing and spending simply will not be enough to defeat the economic crisis that everyday Americans have faced for years now. We need policies that encourage investment and innovation that stem from a diversity of sources, in a plethora of arrangements and partnerships, which spans the diversity that makes us the strongest and most talented nation the world has ever seen. If President Obama is serious about moving forward (as his re-election campaign slogan suggested), we must move past the notion in Washington that government will lead us out of these economic woes through increased taxing and spending – and we must move past this notion quickly for the sake of struggling Americans, working together as one big team.

“Happy New Year to America with the hopes of doing better as a nation, from Washington, DC to the four corners of the country. May God bless you and may He bless the United States of America.”
